What is a 5th Grader capable of learning about the Bible?
Of course it really depends on how much of the Bible you have read to your child and/or how much of the Bible they have read on their own up to this grade. But, based on a 5th grader's physical and mental growth, they are quite capable of learning quite a bit. In fact, they are excellent at memorization and they are starting to put two and two together and "get it." Even though memorizing the books of the Bible and/or simple verses may be all you can get a 10 year old boy (or girl) to do, it is still a good foundation for later, more in-depth study of the Bible. The main spiritual training right now, is to give your 5th grader a godly role model in each of his/her parents and teaching him/her godly values, morals and behavior. Add this to some basic Bible lessons and memorization and you're 5th grader is good to go for now. Teach them when they are young how they should live and when they get older they will remember, even if they go through some junk when they are teens or young adults. (Proverbs 22:6 paraphrased and enhanced).
